Sign Variance Committee Minutes 10/10/06
VILLAGE OF EVENDALE
SIGN VARIANCE COMMITTEE
MINUTES FOR THE OCTOBER 10, 2006 MEETING

The Sign Variance Committee met on Tuesday, October 10, 2006, at 5:30 P.M., in the Council Chambers of the Village of Evendale Municipal Building.  Members Pat Finan, Wayne Mosley and Councilman Stiney Vonderhaar were present.  Members Ted Mueller & Fred Caston were absent.  Also present was Sam Huffman, general manager for Worldwide Equipment and Jack Cameron, Assistant to the Mayor.

The committee heard the following request:

        Worldwide Equipment, 10649 Evendale Drive

Worldwide Equipment submitted plans for a second pole sign along Evendale Drive.  They have an existing electronic sign along their property line fronting Interstate 75.  It is about road height.  Section 1262.14 of the Village of Evendale Zoning code allows one pole sign per lot.

Sam Huffman presented the sign request.  He stated that their property is located on a blind curve on Evendale Drive, making it difficult for semi-trailers to make the turn safely into their property.  They currently have an entrance sign facing north along Evendale Drive.  It is difficult to see coming from the south and because it sits on the curve, truck traveling from the north can not see it until they are upon it.  Mr. Huffman also stated that they have a franchise agreement with Mack & Volvo with specific sign requirements.  This pole sign would help Worldwide Equipment meet those requirements.

There was a lengthy discussion on the location of the new pole sign.  There was a discrepancy between the submitted site plan and the photograph.  The site plan shows the new sign being back 25 feet and on the west side of the canal, where the photograph indicates the new sign being placed on the east side of the canal.  The committee considered the site plan as the correct placement.

Pat Finan expressed concern about the height of the sign and preferred to see a ground sign instead.
